INTRODUCTION
Mouth ulcers are generally caused by infectious Fungi and it is often associated with pain. Swallowing an antifungal tablet is time taking process to produce its therapeutic actions and local application’s duration of action is very less. Many patients may not like these dosage forms. So, an attempt has been made to formulate a medicated herbal chewing gum at home with an Antifungal and Local anaesthetic properties. This chewing gum contains Pomegranate fruit rind extract, which has an antifungal, (against Candidiasis associated with denture stomatitis), astringent, antibacterial actions and Clove oil which has local anesthetic actions. The Pomegranate fruit rind contains 26% of Tannins. Pomegranate fruit rind contains Punicalagins the active constituent in a range from 5 to 60 mg/lt, is effective to kill the microbes that contribute to dental plaque, while helping to heal gum diseases and they also have free radical scavenging properties. Mint leaf juice was added for flavoring and powdered sugar for sweetening purpose in this formulation. When wheat flour and corn flour were chewed it gives chewing gum like consistency.
