Health, healing and wholeness has five aspects to it - body, breath, emotions, intellect and spirit. This is not just ancient wisdom, but now officially recognised by the World Health Organisation that good health includes emotional, mental and spiritual health too.
So ideally one day in the life of a healthy person will have several integral components to it. Good sleep, enough water, moderate diet at the right time - neither fasting nor feasting, vigorous exercise for 45 minutes a day at least, watching the breath at least for 15 minutes or practising breath regulation for half an hour, work at office, shop, community or home, time for hobbies to relax the mind, being in touch with nature, interaction with family and friends and then off to bed on time.
This routine can be followed for six days a week. A holiday can be allowance time for everything, but taking care to do anything with moderation. Else it may undo the meticulous sincerity with which a schedule was done through the week. A life of good health for one who is on day shifts can begin with gazing at the rising sun after sipping on a glass of warm water with quarter of a lime squeezed into it with a teaspoon of honey. This helps clear the system. The water can also have some crushed ginger in it. After your coffee or tea half an hour later, take out your fitness schedule for the day an hour which can have intense walking, jogging, running, cycling, aerobics, shuttle or other sports. It is also a worthwhile step to join a gym where you have trained fitness experts to tell you what you need to go to stay fit and in shape.
However much you try to depend on your own intelligence and counsel an inspection by another on your actual needs can be a great strength and inspiration. Don’t worry too much on the money you have to spend on all this. You may have to spend much more later on doctors, hospitals and medicines. Regarding your diet too, it is good to consult a dietician who will write out a chart depending on your body mass index. The schedule will have timings and quantity. It helps to stick to that with religious fervour.
Never forget all the good that the elixir of life water can do to you. Write out your schedule of a compulsory eight 250 ml glasses of water a day. You can exceed the limit to double the amount, but never go for less. Water rejuvenates you, makes you more alert and intelligence as the brain needs more water to do its work well.
When its time for work, enjoy the work you do where ever it may be and whatever you have in your hands to do. The happiness quotient helps uplift your moods and gives you clarity on any changes that you wish to have with your work, salary, promotions and colleagues. As regards change which is constant, accepting it with ease helps you cope with stress and gives the needed rest for the brain to come up with interesting ideas.
Getting back from work, you can relax with some Pranayama, and Yoga (again something you have learnt from masters). Your day is almost done. It is time to relax, pursue you hobbies, read, spend time with family, helping out a home, have a relaxed dinner, take a short stroll enjoying the night breeze and be off to bed at a time you can get eight hours of sleep to begin your day afresh again.
The order is just the reverse for the increasing tribes of night shift employees who begin their day with moonrise and end it with the sun!.
